Okay, I had to go look up TPG images for this issue. Yep, apparently the dentils are supposed to look like that. Cue jokes about the folks who live in the hills of Georgia, and the state of their teeth...

+ 2 XF details cleaned. Still a nice example of a Dahlonega, GA minted $2.50 gold piece.

EF-40 Details, cleaned at some point in the past, with the surfaces starting to retone. All Dahlonega (and Charlotte) minted coins--being the first to be minted from native gold deposits in Georgia, North Carolina, and some minor deposits in neighboring states, were generally heavily circulated, and to find one this nice (18 Pop @ PCGS in EF-40), even if previously cleaned, is a good catch as they are generally considered scarce. For example, an "Altered Surf(ace)-AU Detail" in a PCGS Holder sold on Great Collections (GC) in 2019 for $$4,783: I would think that a "cleaned" coin at EF-40 would also garner significant interest and corresponding bids. Too bad they didn't leave that one alone. Cleaned unfortunately is going to cost her. EF looks about right to me, she just makes it.
