Help with a 1968 US 1 cent possible error ??

I need some Help with this 1968 US 1 cent please are there errors on the coin or PMD, the R in America is curved under the I, The S in Pluribus looks odd, and the surface of the coin appears to have delaminated I would like your opinions please, Iphone pictures only Im afraid ?!:

Damaged with some crud,still a cent.

 

Unfortunately all you have is ED, environmental damage, and PMD, post mint damage. You can keep it if you like it but it’s just a damaged cent.

 

Crud meaning oxidation ? at first glance it looks like the coins had a rough life other than the extended letter R which curves below the E ( not the I as i stated above) assuming its just a damaged coin I stilll cant work out how the Left leg of the letter R has become extended and curved below the E, its going into my odd coin collection anyway I just wondered if anyones seen anything similar.

Ive looked at this cent about a 1000 times its just the letter R thats confusing me as its curved and raised ? Im hanging on to it anyway casue its an odd 1

 

The curved area is just corrosion/verdigris. Your coin has environmental damage and didn't leave the mint like that

 

Damaged due to various reasons. Best to spend it but if you keep it, do so by keeping that coin away from all of your other coins.

That I think is the best choice.

 

You should have twigged to 2 things, both of which would have saved you much time and confusion.

1. If you understood how dies are made you would have known instantly that that was not done by the Mint and had to be PMD. Go back and re-read the section on it at Wexler.

2. The curved leg area of the R that goes under the E is green…kinda says “Hey! I’m part of all the other corrosion!”. Just common sense.

Damage is what I see. Environmental and PM.

 

Aside from environmental damage (corrosion making the R appear to have a tail), Pre late 1982 cents were mostly copper, which can be moved fairly easy when struck, so the damage looks like an error, but is more pareidolia than anything else.

 

Did you get the license plate number off that truck. Bad PMD. Keep posting.
