I dig quite a few early coppers. I know that typically dug coins go for far less, but many of my early large cents are in better shape than non-dug coins. (Sorry for the different file sizes.)

I am interested in your opinions of whether these coins are grade-able:

    1817 (Common Variety):

    1836 (Common Variety):

    1798 S-181 (Very Scarce):

These are only the ones in decent shape. I have dug a bunch of others, but I think they are too far gone to even bother with. What is your opinion?

I can't offer an opinion on grading or value, but as a fellow relic hunter-nice digs !

What great digs. I've seen quite a few early coppers graded, most have enviromental damage on the label. I'm not totally sure, but I believe it depends on its rarity...

Nice findings. I also MD. Have you gone to this sight? metaldetectingforum.com
Any of your coins are worth something, even if they are not nice. Some one will be willing to buy them at some price. It's hard to grade them. Good luck. :)-O)

If you are asking if a TPG would grade them - it's extremely doubtful. Sometimes with coins of rarity they will make exceptions and grade coins if they think the damage is due to planchet flaws instead of corrosion damage. But those coins have corrosion damage.

That said, any of the TPG's would slab them as genuine, if they are genuine. And I'm not saying they are not.

Gorgeous even patina on the 1801. I don't really see any corrosion on it. The others are a bit rougher.

Dug coins like this sell all the time on ebay, and usually for the graded good price. I have one 1832 cent I dug, but I'm keeping it.

Those are really nice coins. Dirty shame the soil burnt pitting eats away thier value. Any attemp remove dirt/pitting debree from coin will cause the coins surface to break away. MY advice.. try to dig more gold & silver coins ... :D if there's any to be found.

I dig plenty of them as well, but the old coppers are what get my juices flowing!

    My latest Dug coin

Last week I dug a 1812 Classic Large Cent. This coin was more than 12 inches deep and came out in great condition. It is still a dug coin but because of the condition I am sure
any collector would be proud to own it.

Nice. Same with me. I have never purchased a coin or artifact.

I have to consider selling the half dime that I dug in March. It is tough to hold onto a coin that is worth about $10K.
