I'm at 65 #1 64 #2 65 #3 No full steps from what I see....63 and 64 Jefferson nickels had huge mintages , there are probably better washers produced than nickel coins. I recall some 1964's that had no porch on them...more less steps! I grade old school...so complete steps.no nicks or ticks...on the steps. I will concur that a 1964 full step Jeff in registry grades 68 + are like hens teeth! But this should be interesting as yes these years were not years for high grade nickels.
Here is the Reveal: Coin #1: NGC MS66 Personally, I don't believe the mark on the back is a mark, I think it is a planchet flaw, and I think this coin deserves MS67 all day long. Coin #2: NGC MS67 I think this coin is an overgraded MS66 and doesn't hold a candle to Coin #1. Of course someone else submitted this so it doesn't surprise me. Coin #3: PCGS MS65 This is from a submission where they skunked me on virtually every coin I sent in. No premium gem grade, no full steps, just utter disappointment. Needless to say, my favorite is Coin #1.
#1 was always my favorite, due to eye appeal. Toning goes a long way for me. Boy, did they get the grade of #3 wrong. It is an easy 66.
