So here’s a little folded over melted(ish) piece of what appears to be silver. It looks to have an insignia on one or two surfaces like it might have been a wax stamp. Any ideas about what I may have? Thanks!
Is the mark in the center a six spoked wheel? I can't tell for sure. I have seen that as a countermark on coins from Wiedenbrück. 1692 3 pfenning shown below
Maybe do an impression in clay or wax, or even ink, so the design stands out better? It does appear to be a seal for wax as the finger holds on the back seem to fit that use.
@chuckylucky5 beat me to it. Thai bullet money. I would not have been able to identify the ruler, as he did. Edit to add: here's the Wiki link for Rama II. If that is indeed the ruler, and the coin is genuine, then this piece dates to no later than 1824. Nice find!
Unless there are modern fantasies? I know practically nothing about bullet money. FWIW, what I see there in the pictures looks plausible enough to my (admittedly inexpert) eyes, for how a piece of late-1700s-early-1800s silver bullet money is supposed to look. Has some patina to it.
I've never had one. Seen them at shows, and think they're neat, but they'd cause a devil of a dilemma for my slabbed collection!
I believe the stamp on the bullet coin is this one: (If not, please provide a better, straight-on picture of it)
Thanks for all the insight! This one will go into my son’s collection for sure. He loves oddities errors and the absurd.
Mark. Before you put it into your son's collection, pllease try to get a weight so I can give you a denomination of the coin. If you have no way to do that, please give me a measurement of the largest width of the coin. I might be able to tell from that.
