Father gave me this when I was a kid.. he got it from his grandfather who was in the Iranian govt. Is it old or not? any help appreciated. It’s been in my safe forever and now I’m curious.
My persian is not so good, but it seems to read "Mubarak bad". So this likely is some sort of modern good luck token, like those given at Nowruz (newyear celebration).
Sounds plausible to me. I don't read Persian at all, but the roundness of it does seem to indicate it's no earlier than the late-19th century or so, before which most Persian coins were hand-hammered and thus not perfectly round. This has more of a 20th century vibe, to my way of thinking.
I concur with @THCoins on his reading of the obverse, and that this is a modern token. Not sure what is being depicted on the reverse, though.
The reverse shows a mirror and two candlesticks. This may be Zoroastrian inspired to signify spiritual reflection and enlightenment. Browsing around a bit this seems mostly associated with wedding traditions.
