Back to the original poster, welcome to the forum. Post your coins when you get them back, then we will know more about value. Hope you hang around, it's not a bad place overall.
If you want help and guidance, you must post pictures. There should already be pcgs pictures for onw of your coins. And how can we trust what you know until you prove it? A 1982 sm date copper cent is very rare. And I honestly won't believe it until I see it.
I only want to see the Copper 1982 D small date you say you have. I own hundreds of mint errors and varieties. I don't need to see any of your other coins. Mr.Ed Specializing in collecting mint errors since 1985
I had said previously. I sent 5 coins to PCGS to get graded , they should be back soon and I will post..I gave my word. Ragu
I would strongly suggest spending some time learning and understanding the minting process. The reason that members can say you your quarter isn't a D over P is they know the minting process. Starting in 1989, the mm was no longer punched into individual Working dies. There is no way for an over mint mark to occur. Here are some links to get you started (the YouTube is a US Mint video) https://www.coinnews.net/2014/01/06/how-the-denver-mint-makes-dies-to-produce-coins/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=104&v=mqPvKxJXC_Y&feature=emb_title You can also use the following sites for doubled dies. Www.doubleddie.com Www.varietyvista.com Here are some characteristics of worthless doubling (mechanical and die deterioration) vs true doubling. You'll find significantly more worthless doubling than true doubling, so it helps to learn the characteristics of each. https://www.doubleddie.com/144801.html
@paddyman98 The 1982D copper Small date would be such a significant find, PCGS would issue a press release and it would be in all the numismatic periodicals and quickly be posted to the coin chat groups. No need to wonder if the OP will post a pic when it comes back.
That's great , I would be happy to see that a coin of mine would make that kind of wave through the coin wold. I hope that they would reach out to me first. I'm on the edge of my seat. Thank you for sharing your information with Me.I hope I don't let all the excitement of the coin down. I'm 100% sure of the Year, 3.1 grams and the D Mint Mark ,99% sure small date..unless being new I missed something. I put the coin next to another one cent same year, I as an amateur could see the date was much smaller. Ragu
I think you missed something. The large/small dates are due to different punches used on the Master hub during the die making process. While there are some minor size differences, the main differences are the style of the 8, 2, and distance from the rim. If you didn't confirm these characteristics before sending it to PCGS, it's unlikely you'll be happy when it's returned. Denver struck over 6 BILLION cents in 1982. So far, 2 copper small dates have been found. You have better odds of winning the lotto than you do of finding the third one. http://lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1982.html Large date Small date
Yes you probably did. Before sending in coins for grading and attribution to any Third Party Grading company you should always check it out with us first. Don't waste your money sending something your not 100% sure about. Especially the 1982 Cents. It has nothing at all to do with the size of the date but the difference in the shape of the number 2 and the distance from the 2 to the rim.
Ragu STOP. First buy the large red book. Next, buy a mint set, this will give you an in hand look at what a real nice coin should look like. Buy some ( SATLIP ) flips and keep your coins in them until you know a lot more. I tell you this because I have been and still make mistakes for about 70 years.
@Ragu welcome to CoinTalk. The members here might like to tease and tend to have short tempers, but are very knowledgeable and are eager to share information. Best of luck with your submission.
Welcome to CT @Ragu. I hope for your sake some of the coins come back as you hope they would, but getting opinions from forums such as CT, before you send coins in, may save you money and frustration. Keep reading and learning as this hobby can be very enjoyable. But if you are looking to get rich, I'd advise you to try the stock market instead. Be sure to post the results when the coins come back. Good luck
