Thanks to a lucky win in a recent LordM contest I am now the proud owner of ten QuarterMaster quarters. Working out the meaning of the counterstamp is where most of the fun of these coins comes from. Since there was so many I will split it up into 2 threads. Arizona, stamped CENTS - OF YUMA, haven't got this one yet. Arkansas, stamped IN- THE- ROUGH, I got this one= Diamond in the rough. Connecticut, stamped- HAD A BLAST IN MIANUS, I'm not sure I want to say what I think this one means. Georgia, This was an easy one = JUST peach-Y Maine, also easy, IT'S ABOUT ME(Maine). The rest in part 2.
Cents of Yuma right under the sun set from the Arizona State flag. Similar to the "in the rough" under the diamond on the Arkansas coin. Sun Cents - of Yuma. Sunsets of Yuma.
Hi there my gf and I were going thru her coin piggy bank and found this quarter with cents of yuma stamped on it. We have no clue what it means and this is the only thread we can find that talks about it. If you wouldn't mind giving us a little insight into what we just found. Thank you.
Hi llSODAPOPll , tibor above thinks it's a play on words. It's an Arizona quarter, Yuma is in Arizona, "CENTS OF Yuma = Sense of Humor". those coins are counterstamped by a person called "The Quartermaster" from "QuarterNotes Ltd." Now you know what everyone knows, there's dozens and dozens and dozens of different counterstamped quarters by him/her over the years. if a part of the coin hobby called counterstamping, people use punches and stamp into coins whatever, even just their initials, or numbers for whatever the reason, and let them loose on the world. some counterstampers are identifiable, some are not.
wow that's obscure, and right up the quartermasters alley. that answer is also a possibility, some of them are simple/easy jokes, some of them require thinking to get an answer and some like this that could be a few right answers.
Thanks for getting back to me. Are these things worth anything? We are just starting to get into coin collecting.
Hello RCO, and welcome to CT. If you read the few posts directly above your post you'll find all you seek. It is only a collectible if you decide to keep it in your collection. As for any added value, no. It is just a fun activity for those who find these counterstamped coins. Trying to decipher their meaning is the value of the coin. Some people keep them. Others release them back into circulation. Enjoy it for what it is.
