Came across a neat 2 Reales coin today minted in Mexico. Since this kind of coin circulated as currency in the early U.S. I figure it is at least pseudo colonial.

You are absolutely right bqcoins, spanish colonial coinage (specially minted in Mexico city) circulated extensively in colonial america. In fact, they are fairly common metal detecting finds in the U.S, sometimes found together with colonial coppers.

BTW, if you happen to come across coins from other spanish colonial mints, for example Bogota, Lima and specially Santiago (Chile) make sure to keep them. They are quite a bit scarcer than their Mexico City counterparts.
