Hi has anyone seen a coin cracked this bad? Is it worth any thing? Any info and input would be great! Thanks
It's a well-known shattered die that incorporates a 50% retained cud. A dramatic and desirable error.
Thanks for the replies, would it be worth getting slabed? I found this in pocket change. I also found a 2000 SC quarter that is thiner and has only two layers, onesilver and one copper the back is stamped in copper. Would this also be worth having slabbed? I may have to sell my error collection where is the best place to start? Thanks
Great looking dime!! Those errors are very rare especially that dramatic. Check out my buffalo nickel on a semi-key date 1931-S. This particular pic isn't that good and may come out real small as I'm at work right now. You can see that it was minted on a faulty planchet, at least that's the way the error was explained to me. :thumb:
The shattered die dime is worth about $150. Your quarter, which appears to be missing the reverse clad layer, would be worth $200 or so. As for slabbing, I wouldn't bother, as the first error cannot be faked and the second error is rarely faked.
