Is a cud on an Old Large Cent Better or Worse? And is this just crud, not CUD?

This coin is Newcomb-4, obverse die 2, reverse die D. Rarity 2+.

That stuff near K3 on the reverse is crud, not cud.

    Well, it depends.

In general, it's neither better nor worse. Rather, it's case by case. Some folks collect a single variety by die state, so a late die state such as a cud is collectible for some folks (a very few specialists). If the late die state is rare, someone might pay a premium.

Even casual folks sometimes find them interesting and might buy the coin 'cuz they think it's cool. Sometimes they're very instructive.

To answer the "what's it worth" question, CQR lists a scudzy G5 at $7.

    Does it show?

Fell out of the family tree to me. Most likely spent some time buried in river mud.

ThanX to all on so much info on this gem~to~me.
I was really curious about the features of the rev.
