I got these from a little old lady (no...really I did) for identification. I don't know if they are Temple tokens, medals, or whatever. Any help would be appreciated. #1 Copper or Bronze, 33mm diameter, 2mm thick, 14g #2 Copper or Bronze, 33mm diameter, 2mm thick, 13.9g (holed) #3 Aluminum?, 27mm diameter, 1mm thick, 2.g
The Trident device in the 2nd pic makes me think Ukrainian…I’m not an expert in these older types and hope they are not replicas…pretty sure not aluminum unless a modern facsimile.
Reverse is a Tamgha. https://coins.ha.com/itm/russia/rus...the-great-980-1015-srebrennik-/a/3046-30635.s
Wait for more experienced members to chime in. In any event that was certainly a good gest, good luck, I hope you get the answers you want.
What information did the woman give you? Handed down from great-great-great, or recently acquired? If so, how. Clues other than the photos are essential in tracking things down.
They were in a box with some other coins from her late husband's things. Quite a few countries were represented from that box, including Afghanistan, China/Taiwan, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Japan, Pakistan, Sudan and Yemen Arab Republic.
That trident is indeed the symbol of the modern nation of Ukraine, and appears on some of their present-day coins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Ukraine The symbol may have also once appeared on earlier (even much earlier) coins, though I do not know. These have the appearance in general design of medieval pieces, but their style also looks suspiciously similar to how cast modern fantasies or reproductions might. I'd be very cautious about labeling them as bona fide medieval pieces. But again, I don't know. They're certainly interesting, whatever they are, whether or not they are truly medieval or much more modern Ukrainian fantasies of some kind.
I had not yet seen this post when I made my previous reply. That's even more interesting, and somewhat encouraging. As previously mentioned, I had a hunch the symbol might have also been used on some earlier coins, though this was the first time I'd seen such a coin. Thanks. So, an encouraging sign, but still not definitive proof of authenticity for the coins in the OP.
I agree with Siberian Man. All of my research has led me to the same conclusion. Thank you all for your input and comments.
