Are you going to the 2010 Cent Launch cerimony in Springfield Il. ? I will be there, i wnt to the cerimony for the LP3 cent. It was very exciting.
You should have pictures of you at the ceremony with Moy, so 50 years from now the rolls you get will have a provenance.
I'm not quite sure why they are having this ceremony. It isn't Lincoln's birthday, it isn't President's Day, and it isn't the release or launch of the new cent. Let's have a ceremony to mark . . . nothing? Are we sure there even is a ceremony? There still has not been a press release about it from the Mint. Considering it is only nine days from now isn't that a little odd? It has been posted on a few "unofficial" sites including mintnewsblog, but no official mention, and even the unofficial sites have mentioned that there has been no official announcement or details given out.
Well . . . it is the day before Lincoln's birthday! FWIW, often there are ceremonies _after_ the event that is causing the ceremony. (E.g., world series rings are presented the following spring, etc.). And, who knows, perhaps it's the debut of the release of the cent within the 50 states! I happen to stop by one of the US Mint stores in DC today asking about this, and they told me that: (a) there is a ceremony in Springfield, Ill., on Feb 11; and (b) they will also be offering exchanges at the US Mint stores that day. (If it's in the past, the rule will be: $3 to get six OBW rolls of "P", and you're not supposed to go through the line more than once).
I have a friend in Illinois who's going to drive down to the ceremony, so I've been checking. A coin website said 2/11 at 10:35 am. I checked the Springfield newspaper and there's nothing listed, but there is a big event already planned at the Lincoln Museum on his birthday, which is probably why they set it for the 11th.
I have this vague recollection that all four Lincoln cent releases last year were on Thursdays . . . . fwiw
I just saw the announcement on the US Mint website. I'd love to go down the night before for the Coin Forum.
I'd suggest you take something like this for Director Moy to sign if you get the chance. Please take pics and post here if you can. :thumb:
Yeah either that or HSN headquarters! CoinVault and those other TV auctioneers will be all over it, I'm sure of it. If I lived in the area I would go, I'm sure you could get something special to put away for awhile.
Just heard on the news that they are going to be releasing the new cent TODAY. I love local news organizations. I remember when I lived in Louisville, they would never discuss events of local interest until after they were over lest they accidentally provide any free advertising.
