In an ever going effort to circulate my direct ship 2001 Sacagawea's, I spent $25 at the self check out counter at Home Depot over the weekend.

This now officially qualifies as my biggest purchase with the $1 coins to date.

You will forever be lauded as the "dollar man" of Home Depot. Future generations will sing your praises and children will mention you in their bedtime prayers every evening.....

Self check-out counters actually take dollar coins? This surprises me. I am used to resistance all the way in spending these things....

Thanks for sharing. I think I will actually use dollar coins next time I use a self check-out.

....i can just see the bank teller running and hiding every time they spot the depot

employee entering the bank to make their sales deposit.

Yes. Like everyone else, I initially thought the public had to accept the $1 coin before the program could be considered successful. But now I'm beginning to wonder if the people rejecting the coin are the merchants and not the average consumer.

If Direct Ship is getting the coins out and we are volunteering to spend them, if the merchant do not accept giving the coins back out as change, and simply take them back to the bank, the program will most certainly fail.

Are merchants ruining the $1 coin

Merchants play a critical role in the circulation loop.

Merchants play the ONLY roll in the circulation of this coin.

Many folks I've shown them to wonder where they can get them and why they've never seen them?

I don't agree they play the only role. If the coins don't get into consumers' hands, they can't pay for things. The DirectShip puts them in our hands to spend. But the loop back to the consumers via merchants is not completed if they take the coins back to the banks. Certainly banks do not have the same exposure to take part in as many transactions as businesses do with consumers on a day to day basis.

I may not go to the bank at all this week but I will buy lunch, go to the cleaners, get a newspaper, etc etc etc
