Why would anyone put coins in little plastic sleeves?

I just got back from a coin shop having purchased a lot of coins that someone stored in little plastic sleeves. It's hard to look at the coins in the sleeves, hard to get them out and I have to imagine even harder to get them in there. Plus it doesn't lead to any kind of attractive way to store them. Why would anyone use these? Now if you'll excuse me I'll be shaking plastic sleeves upside down trying to get the coins out of them. IMG_20211110_154413002.jpg

Uh, what about the people who wrap individual coins in aluminum foil? I've seen that many times and it's super, SUPER fun to unwrap while you process an accumulation.

@stldanceartist I know why that is a thing - security deposit box thefts were a real big thing in the 1960s-80s in North America, and a tip shared by the media was to wrap your belongings in tin foil in the hope that items would catch at the edges / clump and not dump. Frankly not bad advice... although if someone is determined enough, theyll figure it out.

I’m sorry. That’s just funny as heck to me. I don’t know why they do it either. I been on a mission to put all my slabs in plastic sleeves. Now each time I do it, I’ll laugh thinking of this thread.

I've received several purchases in these little sleeves. Annoying. :rage:

No staples to scratch the other coins.
Easier to organize/store without banging them together.
    No fingerprints.

Not to mention the second pouch where you can put a slip of paper with the coin's info on it. I like the plastic sleeves, you can even see the edge of the coin more easily.

Flips are for submitting to TPGs and labeling them for receiving. Not much else IMO.

To be clear I don't mean flips, though I don't like those either. These are basically like long, narrow soft plastic bags.

You were clear enough when you posted images. I don't need to change my reply. Long time collectors can remember that at one time the US Mint put proofs into open top sleeves to protect them in the box.

a few of the dealers i deal with do this, then tape them to cardboard, (or worse yet, paper) aggravating to open, still better than one guy taping a ms-67 error coin onto cardboard, yup it happened!!

Hey, if your family owns a factory that produces all different sizes of those little packets, wouldn't you use them too? LOL
