I will take your word. I don't know enough to make that accessement. I thought that LCR Coin out of Texas was a reputable and known dealer in the community. But that is two coins on the website, but rather expensive, with issues with the NCG labels, and I don't even trust NCG because of our dealings with them. Before making a multithousand dollar investment in these coins, this would need to be resolved. On the issue of this being a hobby and not an investment, it can be both. You can't put 100,000 USD on a coin and not consider the finacial ramifications.
Regardless of the authenticity of the OP's coin, coin investment is a tricky proposition considering that it seems (IMHO) that only the truly rare coins continually go up in value (over and above inflation). Any other coins should only be for collection purposes, certainly not for investment purposes. One has to wonder about dealers who continually espouse "investment" in coins; what do they invest in? It would be interesting to see. Either way, I "collect" coins for their beauty and historic value, not to mention that I'm collecting for my daughters and concentrate on chronological dates relating to our family.
Yes, coin and currency collecting is considered a hobby and I am among them. But, my expectation is for my heirs, two very young, lovely, terrorist girls. I purchase carefully and do expect a premium for their future. I of course, am enjoying the ride! Nice coin, thanks for posting it, good luck.
Here we go again. E N O U G H. The coins were stolen, we know, now find something else to waste our time on.
This makes the thread even more interesting imho. Why would lcr buy a coin worth that much money without first checking the certification?? I check even on $50 coins. And why would they then post the problem coin on their website WITH a link to the invalid cert? Genuinely interested.
I give them away now. Why wait? Just don’t leave them with a bunch of Canada quarters. @CoinJockey73 Those suckers are confusing
I know that NGC does keep tabs on the coins they have graded. The piece may have crossed to another grading service, and they found out about it some how. During the time when NGC barred new listings of PCGS coins on their registry (PCGS coins that had been registered earlier were grandfathered.), they dumped the coin out of you set if they learned that the piece was no longer in an NGC holder. They also remove coins from their population report if the slab label is sent them.
