Well, I didn't get what I wanted exactly...but I did get a pretty sweet consolation prize.

Visited one of my favorite coin shops today - owner pulls out a small pile of world silver for me. Nothing too special in it, a few SP/UNC Canadian sets, a few French francs, a couple Bahamas early 70's silver proof 2 dollar coins. The usual.

Then he pulls out an album FULL of nicer world silver including some low-mintage proofs...but tells me he'd like to show it to someone first before he sells it to me. Rats.

Oh well. I still got a decent little pile of world silver.

Then he goes in the back to pull out a few more things (he definitely Lt. Columbo'd me!) and included in the tiny pile are these two gems:

I know the 1980 set (which has a lot of silver in it) is a little better...but the 1984 set is a LOT better. I feel like the Krause states that there is a mintage of 7,500 sets for the 1984, but I see quite a few listings online that state it's around 1,000 sets. I'm curious if someone has more precise information - probably someone like @7Jags would know?

So, even though I didn't get to buy an entire album full of nice world silver, I did get a couple cool sets to take home with me.

Beautiful coins. Franklin Mint did such nice work.

Very nice haul. Are you still going to go after the Album? Good luck.

Yes, he told me I should come back and if the other person passes, I can buy it. Which would be super fun - although lots of conservation work as most coins look like they’ve been in the 2x2 for at least a decade or two.
