    Strike Through Grease examples

I have come across a Kennedy Half dollar that I believe may have been struck through greese. I am learry about it though since I have very little experience with that type of error.

I do plan on taking some pictures and posting them but I am trying to polish my camera skills first. I don't feel my current picture shows enough of the relief on the surface to adequately assist in the identifying. I do plan on posting pictures soon but I need more time to work out the method.

I was hoping some of the users of this forum could provide example photos so that I can compare the characteristics. This will not only assist me with identifying but it will also assist me in determing what characteristics from the surface should be shown in the pictures and how they should be displayed.

thats a good idea Morgan. If people post pictures of known greased examples, it woul dcertainly help. I have often gotten confused over how to tell the differance between struck through grease examples, and just worn examples.

There are many pics already posted - just search the Error Forum for "struck through grease" - 23 threads here alone. There are more in various other areas Coin Talk.

    GDJMSP-

My point was to see if other people had really good example photos that were not available on the site. Most pics on the site are of missing letters and various other small descrepancies. I was and still am looking for larger more pronounced versions of struck through grease coins. I do want to thank you for pointing out that there are examples already present on the site though.

As for the WHY here are the pics of the obverse and reverse.

Boy Howdy !! That one sure has issues !

I could be way off base on this, but I don't think that coin was struck through grease, or anything else. But as I have said many times, I'm not an error guy, so I'll let those who are correct me if I'm wrong.

But if I had to guess, I'd say that coin had a thick acid dropped on each side.

    Nope,
Not struck through grease. It looks like a coin that was plated and the plating is damaged

I was leaning towards the acid idea myself but I wanted to make sure I got good pics first. I am pretty sure it's not a plating error but even if it really was acid I think it looks cool as heck. I may use it as a pocket peice or inset it in a peice of furnature or something.
