I have decided to attempt to get one coin of every country, in BU. It can be done at a pretty cheap price, plus I'll have fun...that, and I can put what I want into the set.

    here are the firsties:

    China, Lamination error

In case you were wondering, your Chinese coin is a guang xu tong bao produced during the years 1903-1905 of the reign of Emperor De Zong (1875-1908) of the Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty (1644-1911).

The coin was struck at the mint in Zhejiang Province and the denomination is 10 cash.

This coin was made in both brass and red copper versions. Your specimen appears to be the red copper variety.

Very ambitious goal... will keep you busy for quite a while. It's not so much the price as the availability... some countries have very reasonably priced coins but aren't so easy to find. (My favorite example is the Seychelles. I have gotten any number of funny looks from dealers on that one.)

Thalia Elizabeth is still adding Queen Elizabeth coins here and there. Just working on countries and territories with her portrait gives you dozens of choices.

  7. Good luck man. What range are you looking at? All countries all time, or just current, or all issuing authorities? You could even go for each monetary system, because there are countries that have kept them same leadership but changed monetary systems. (IE Mexico's monetary reform of 1992)

I'm working on a somewhat haphazard set as I can, mainly from buying world coins by the pound and raiding the 10 for a dollar bin at a coin shop I go to every so often.

I've got 94 countries in my collection as of right now, counting Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece.

The China's nice but is it BU?

Lol, ya, the Chinese actually is just to throw in with all the other Chinese coins I have, I liked the lamination error on it.

Billy: Prolly any years for every country that ever existed and minted coins. I don't care about reform or anything.

Manymore: Thanks for the help on the year!

thanks all for the comments and the help! :)

I've thught about this before to, but decided not too so I wish you the best of luck :) One thing I had thought on doing was to split it by continent and the continents from west to east, or north to south so I could focus on one place at a time.

That's my plan actually. I want to get North America done ( I know, challenging right? :rolling:) then move to Central America, then to South America.

That one is from Guatemala. Though, I can't find any info on it on the web (for a 1/4 for that year). Perhaps I'll find something in Krause tommorrow at the library.

Also, I need opinions here. for the Norway...is it NGC worthy? I am considering it, I think it can go MS-66ish (though I dont have it in hand yet)

  20. The Guatamala coin was issued from 1859-1869. 59 seems to be the tough date. I don't have the Krause book from the 1800s but that info came from the Red Book of world coins.
