How do you get coins into those things? With a hammer?

As my Dad says: "Never force it... get a bigger hammer."

lol, I've had some like that, I took a junk coin and forced it in the hole with a spoon to widen the hole a little. Sometimes it really takes alot of pressure...

I've had this problem too. I used the blunt end of an Xacto knife handle and moved it around and around the hole while putting pressure outward on the hole. This usually distorts the hole enough to place the coin in without a hydraulic press. Hope that makes sense.

when I was filling state quarter albums, some of them were near impossible to push in, I would take my fingernail and scratch around the oval a few times, it seemed to work.

Take a duplicate and insert in each hole to stretch it. Usually makes the real coin go in nicely. I did have some problems with state quarters, but the presidential dollars are impossible. I use a soft round rubber screw driver end, with some soft cotton on the end to work the coin into the hole. Of course all of my coins come from pocket change and does not really hurt the coins.

Yeah. I've tried to carefully use a box cutter to cut the hole a little wider. It helps, but it is still difficult sometimes. I thought about using a junk coin and forcing it in first too. I'll have to try that. Its really been difficult filling up my 3 sets of state quarter folders. In the future I'll be buying most of my supplies from Littleton. It takes very little pressure to get the coins into Littleton folders and albums. I know their coins are overpriced, but I think their supplies are worth an extra dollar or two.

I have had the same problem and usually go the junk coin route, but then I've had problems with the holes being to big afterward and my folders are spilling quarters out of them.

The presidential dollars are a pain to get into the folders! Any other coin, I've had next to no problems, but something about those presidential coins causes me grief!

I see I'm not the only one who's had this problem.

My solution was to get a different brand folder.

They are a bother. I ended up bending the cardboard on some of them causing permanent damage.
Usually I get a couple fingers on my left hand behind the hole to support it. Then I push the coin in with my right thumb. Sometimes I just lay the folder down on a table and try to push the coin in the hole.
I use cotton gloves or put a clean rag over the coin.
Some folders are used, purchased for a dollar each. About 80 percent of the coins go right in easily. But about 20 percent fall out.
My solution is to just get rid of the cardboard folders altogether [when I have assembled a good amount of the set] and go for a Whitman classic or a Dansco album.

  14. Good idea! Dansco is much easier to use. TC

Actually Yes I do use a hammer. The holes are tight and your fingers give too much. Most of the effort you expend trying to push the coin in goes making your finger spread or bend.

I set the coin in the hole, lay a couple sheets of paper over it, and then use the face of a hammer to press the coin into the hole. The paper protects the face of the coin and since the steel of the hammer doesn't give, it pushes the coin into the hole rather nicely. (Using a slight rocking motion with the hammer sometimes helps as well.)

I use the eraser end of a #2 pencil to push 'em in there if they just won't go....lay it flat on my desk and work it in there.
