Please help a noob out! I was at a local antique shop and checking out the coins they had for sale. Amongst the oddities, I seen a Morgan dollar coin, but it had no date at all. It wasn't rubbed off, but rather, the stars just went all around the coin. Backside was missing some wording as well. To me, it looked like perhaps a generic style reproduction. But what do I know!?! lol The coin looked to be in good condition. The seller really didn't have much of an idea what it was and had gotten it from a collector's widow. Anyone have an idea what this is?
I've seen a lot of tokens/replicas that fit what you are describing, and even bullion from private mints (though the bullion would list the weight and metal purity). I was in a dealer's shop this week and he had a bin of those in plastic wrappers with an "information booklet" about Morgan dollars. I suppose they would make decent hole fillers for your album.
Yep - sounds like a private mint. One of the ladies at work brought in a bunch of silver rounds that looked like that - can't remember which mint it was, but her mother got them back in the 70's or 80's.
if it's a private mint .999 silver round it's usually 1oz and would be worth spot price of silver - currently between $16 and $17/oz. If it's just a metal replica coin then its probably not worth much .
