Last December, I found a 46-D with an RPM that didn't seem to match any that were listed on either NGC or Variety Vista, see linked thread below. 1946-D Jefferson Nickel--Doubling and Mintmark Seven months later, I have found another 46-D with a basically identical RPM. Any help identifying this RPM would be helpful, thank you!
Interesting coin. While I'm neither a Jefferson or RPM collector, I think I'd send this coin in for attribution. I also find it interesting that Monticello is weakly defined but the steps are well defined.
Information on them is really weak in general for 1946-D the examples on the sites could be either later die states, or worn examples and can't really compare the apple to the apple off those pictures. I know, you've already looked. http://doubleddie.com/1469066.html Looks like a D/D tilted to me in my unprofessional opinion. Could be unidentified at this point or a better example and earlier state of possibly 1946-D 5¢ WRPM-007
There are plenty of them here . Just check the "Die Markers". Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties (doubleddie.com)
I have this coin too, a recent purchase. On mine, the MO-----LLO on Monticello are doubled including the building itself, left side. And the loop side of the D can be seen inside the top D. Leon
IMHO the building is machine doubling, not hub doubling. So that part is not a doubled die indicator. I have seen this numerous times when looking at these.
Appears all of it is MD to me. Flat, shelflike, with reduction of the devices. The MM may be a RPM but it also appears to have MD also. JMHO
Looks like an rpm to me also paul. My pc is in storage so not much help in trying to find the variety for you! Nice one though!
