It's also supposed to be "The city so nice, they named it twice."

Because, you know, it rhymes that way.

I spent 5 years in New York between 1973-1978 and still look on it as one of the best experiences I ever had. 4th of July was an experience that couldn't be re-created!!! Sitting on the Belt Parkway watching the NYC fireboats spouting red white and blue water as they led the American Eagle up the Hudson under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge with Gerald Ford on the Forrestal carrier!!!

Let's get back to the original almost 5 year old article. "right here in New York City, in the collection of the New-York Historical Society..."

It wasn't "in" the collection, it was on loan. So the premise of the article is kind of bogus.

The irony of this whole conversation is that everyone who is saying they live in NYC are the ones typically shrouded with the NY sucks stereotype are showing how pleasant and inviting NY'ers can be. The one person who, without any justification for his harsh, critical, and insulting comments, is coming across as the angry, intolerant NY stereotype.

I believe without coming out and saying it he's so highly critical of NY not necessarily because of its diversity, beautiful landscape outside of the city proper (as he referenced it), cultural offerings, etc, but because of its political leaning.

I'm glad I have amused you or offended you, whatever you choose to make it. I'm thinking more along the lines of Green Acres and the differences between country values and city conveniences and what makes people happy.

    VIVA LE DIFFERENCE!

that is hardly a visit. There are at least 83 major museums here alone, not to mention that thousands of art galleries, auction houses, and private collections. It is the center of world fashion, banking, the largest community of working artists in the world (especially in Brooklyn). It is the center of international diplomacy and 520 miles of varied shoreline from the beaches of Coney Island, to City Island, and everything in between. The American War for Independence started here and it was the first US capital with thousands of historical landmarks from colonial times to the modern world, outstripping other famous locals like Boston and Philadelphia by a great deal. Its historical landmarks stretch from the Louie Armstrong House to the Wyckoff House (the oldest building in North America). It has a national park in Gateway National Park and Jamaica Bay is one of the largest wetlands in North America. It has 5 major zoos, crowned by the Bronx Zoo on the Bronx River.

It is the historical center of music for the country, being central to the development of Jazz, Blues, and the birthplace of Rock and Roll (thanks to the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn) and where the Beatles made the US entry into the popular conscious. From Lincoln Center to the Russian Cabarets in Brighton Beach. It is the world mecca for live performance from the Blue Note in the Village to Carnegie Hall, and that is before discussing Broadway and Juilliard.

It's stage theater offerings outstrip the rest of the country in total. Historically it started with Theater court in downtown, where George Washington viewed performances, and today we still have 41 active Broadway class stages, and that doesn't even include the Majestic theater and the Brooklyn Academy of Music which alone might outstrip the offering of most major cities. And then there is OFF-Broadway which includes such treasured venues as The Public which produced among other things "Hair", BAM, City Center, Lincoln Center, Townhall, The Ed Sullivan Theater, and the numerous comedy clubs and coffee houses where the likes of Whoopie Goldberg, Robin Williams, Bob Dylan, George Carlin, Saturday Night Live, all got their start. Before that NY Vaudeville gave birth to modern Television and the Movies with the likes of Al Jolson, Fats Waller, The Marx Brothers, etc etc etc.

Its literary and print centers are still alive and it was the place where Superman and Spider-man was both created. Nearly the entire body of popular culture was created here from the creative juices of Marvel and DC comics, to the newspaper, magazines, and publishing business.

There are literally hundreds of Movie theaters in the city, and over 700 in the state. In addition to the movies, there are shows and digital venues across the entire city from the Hayden Planetarium to the digital presentation at south street sea port and the like.

NYC is probably the largest college town in North America. We have 472 schools of higher education in the city with over 34,000 out of town students living in the city studying in universities such as Colombia, NYU, SVA, Parsons, LIU, Pratt, Cooper-Union, SUNY Downstate Medical, Juilliard, the CUNY network, The New School, Pace University, St Johns University, Fordham University, Albert Einstein Medical School, Yeshiva University, Touro University, Fashion Institute of Technology, and many many more.

Aside from that, we have 2 major league baseball teams, sometimes 2 hockey teams, 2 basketball teams, and no football teams :)

NYC operates five of the finest New York City golf courses — Douglaston Golf Course, Forest Park Golf Course, Flushing Meadows Golf Center, Kissena Golf Course and Van Cortlandt Golf Course.

And that ALL doesn't even touch the surface of the cities depths. We have internationally famous communities in Little Italy, China Town, Coney Island, Times Square, the Village, the Lower East Side, East New York, Flatbush, Brighton, Flushing, SoHo ..... etc etc etc..

In summary, your visit here and impression is jack diddly squat. You wasted your time as you wasted our time reading it here.

I choose to be amused and laugh, you choose to be offended. It's part of those differences in values.
