1 grosz 1788, copper, Stanislaus-Augustus Ponyatovsky the King (he was a lover of Catherine the Great and recieved Polish crown "from her arms").
He was a bad and unpopular ruler. For example: once, his subjects to beat his face.:hammer:

During 1807-1814 Poland was a Grand Duchy. This country got independence from Napoleon I, because... it was his payment for the sexual contacts with Mary Walevska. It"s not joke! It"s historical fact!
When French invaders intrusioned in Russia in 1812, Polish troops intrusioned too. After Napoleon" defeat in 1815, Poland was divided between the Austria, Prussia and Russia.
You can see 1 grosz 1812, copper, Grand Duchy of Warszava, mintage - 6377000.

  15. Very nice! I really like the portrait coin of Sigismund III, at CoinFest (a coin show here in the USA) I purchased a 3 polker (I think that is the denomination) from 1623 from his rule, but it does not bear his portrait. I was shocked to find I could purchase a coin from 1623 for under $10, but I did!

Here are the scans of it...not that great in most cases but the best I could get with this coin.

Thanks for showing me some coins my ancestors might have used , I always thought Napolean made Poland a Grand Duchy because of their long allience and that Poland gave Napolean some of his best Cavalry , would love to see a link for your explanation , we all know what some men will do for a women .

Yes of course, Napoleon I wanted a new soldiers and he used the Polish cavalry. But one of his conditions of independence of the Poland was a sexual contact with Mary Walevska.
