i have been searching for this for about a half year, not a white whale, more like a white squirrel.....90% silver, would of been happy with just a blank planchet, but hey, fior what i paid for this lil guy..cannot complain i have seen blanks going for 60 and up, and if from sullivan or heritage, add 100 to the equation, and an o/c silver?? well just saw one today on heritage (closed auction) and hammer was 165.00 a bit more with their 20% on top (min 19.00) thAT IS WHY I PREFER RAW..AND I PREFER EBAY, MONEY BACK GUARANTEE..IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL HUNDREDS, MAYBE A THIOUSAND OR SO ERRORS, FROM SMALL (NO VALUE YOU SAY) MACHINE OR DIE DETERIOTING DOUBLING (MOSTLY HALVES FOR THEM), UP TO SLABBED MAJOR OFF METALS AND PROOF ERROR BLANKS AND (WOOPS saw caps turned on, me fat fingers...) anyways..yeh, what was i saying?/ oh yeah, am happy, got this lil guy for 39.50 delivered to my door... i am not too learned in grading heavily toned coins (i must admit) or brown lincolns for that matter, but i am going to hazard a guess at xf-45..details sharp, but i think there is a bit of wear under the patina..(non coiners call it tarnish)..lol anyways, that is all for todays inbox..enjoy and i welcome your comments i might not agree wit ya, or i may opinions are like mouths, everyone has one!!!
Honestly, I would concentrate more on the stuck part of the coin to see how much luster is left, then look at the upset rims on the unstruck area. And try to determine how much wear the coin actually has. The unstruck area of the coin does not have the same metal flow/luster as the struck area.
well, using my rinky dinky lil currency tester microscope (60 X mag) i will stick with xf...me thinks...like i said before i collect errors i do not sell them (yet) and may never...when i croak it will probably be sold for scrap, lol also i have a few blank unc and proof planchets, and ngc or pcgs calls em ms-61 or ms-62...how they get that from a blank?? i call em all 60 unless a lot of wear, or no wear (rare) at all..
I have been watching one in a dealers case for the past 3 years about 90% off center. It still sits there at about 70$. Thinking I could double + my money in a couple of days.
as far as grading goes (this coin and the sac before) check out this guy selling an ms-62 in a pcgs, the coin looks more like xf-40, please, go look and tell me what you thinnk... https://www.ebay.com/itm/265241282854?hash=item3dc19cc926:g:YuMAAOSwZsRgKsl8
his in holder, loose one from pcgs photograde online and everyone said my sac was not even unc, lol okay///please
please, pray tell..how pcgs figured this one out?? plus dime has 2 holes in head as well as wings shot to hades....and somewhere in one of my safes is an ms-70 dcam pcgs that has a nasty scratch on kennedy's face plus coin rim contact mark, now how the heck does a proof get a contact mark, a scratch and still get a 70 grade?? i could of returned it to the guy i bought it from, back last year was buying 300-500 a month off him, but he sends my purchases in free pcgs plastic cases, so i said i would eat the 40.00 (i paid ) for the coin..buying sight unseen?? yeh right..sorry that is a fail pcgs!!
I think this coin is a solid XF-45 to AU. You can see Roosevelts hairline pretty clearly, and the luster is pretty prominent. It looks like everything else is dirt, besides a few scratches.
