Here is an interesting article on the history of the 1982 US Cent.. https://coinweek.com/coins/coin-profiles/us-coins-coin-profiles/united-states-1982-lincoln-cent/ But with a huge mistake in their specifications. Can you find it?
Well I learned something new. I always assumed that the composition of the planchet was changed mid year. But it was actually in October
The article doesn't mention the different varieties.. But have you ever heard of the Copper D Mint Mark Small Date.. Only 2 have ever been discovered!
Yeah I think I found one. I will take (really blurry) pictures (of a large date Denver) when I get home. Then I will throw a fit when everyone tells me I'm wrong. You all clearly don't look at etsy enough to know what's up.
What the heck, joining the fun! San Francisco contributed another version if you are willing to include the proof along with the business strikes. Nobody asked my opinion, but I wouldn’t have traded away the reverse detail just to get the cameo appearance. In no particular order…
I think the article just wanted to concentrate on the composition change. I'm sure there are past articles by CoinWeek on the different varieties.
To me it's kind of an odd article. No mention of the LD/SD varieties and why the date changed, and yet they go into detail about the design changes, which have nothing to do with 1982.
to be a little more specific - the mints production is also wrong West Point and San Francisco made almost 3.5 billion cents to take away from the Phil count. Most collectors don't realize that San Fran and West Point mints did also make general coins too. In my opinion - the mint at the time didn't want collectors to hoard coins like in the late 60's. So if they don't put any mintmarks on them we wouldn't collect them. Imagine if they did ??? Here is an article by David Lang of NGC if you want some more reassurance on the 1982 cents https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/646/
Is the 2017P penny worth anything? It was marked only 1 time for something special at the Phily mint?
