This is a chance pickup in a recent Bertolami auction. I won bid on another coin in the same auction, and I was thinking maybe I should pickup more coins. I scanned the upcoming lots, and run into this coin. Coin surface is rough, but the Achelous face is quite clear. I like it, and a silver man-headed bull coin is on my 2022 checklist. Akarnania, The Oiniadai, Æ 219-211 BC.; 23mm, 6.64g, 7h. Obv: Laureate head of Zeus right Rev: Head of river-god Achelous right; monogram behind. HGC 4, 899. Bertolami, October 2021.
That's a beaut! Here's my little beast: Hey! Look at that we have Zeus, Herakles, Athena and Apollo on our obverses!!!
That's a nice one, @happy_collector! Achelous is very well preserved . AKARNANIA, Federal Coinage (Akarnanian Confederacy) 3rd century BCE Æ (20mm, 6.38 g, 10h) Obv: laureate head of Zeus right; API below Rev: head of river-god Achelӧos left; trident head above, monogram to left. Ref: BCD Akarnania 32; HGC 4, 736 ex Alexandre Carathéodory Pasha (1833-1906)
Nice man-headed bull with Hercules. Nice coin design with Athena on obverse, and left-facing man-headed bull. Thanks, @Ryro. Your example with Achelous' running legs looks cool and dynamic. Thanks, @TIF. You example has good surface. I like the trident control mark.
I've got one of these, sort of. It is by far one of my favorite bronzes Roman Republic Æ Triens(20mm, 5.88g, 12h), anonymous("CA" series), 209-195 B.C., Canusium(?) mint. Congrats happy collector, great coin. Mine is not as sharp, but was only 10 Euro. silver one was a bit more
