One of the coin shows (AVC) mentioned that 2022 will be the last year for the Lincoln Cents. I don't consider coin shows reliable information, Any one hear anything else about this ? Thanks
No,nothing is cheaper than the crappy zilincon Lincoln!!!it wouldn't make cents but there not doing that now anyway.
When this made the rounds in a recent thread not too long ago (I'm too lazy to look that up right now), I seem to recall it was tracked back to a joke post- in other words, it's an urban legend. Or has been, so far. But it may well come true eventually.
It was, there is an April Fools magazine article that gets update each year to state that the cent will be discontinued on the first of April of the following year. And every year somebody stumbles across it and comes to break the big news. Its been around for something like three years now.
As long as you have Zinc manufacturers, you will have a Zinc lobby who will ensure that there will be Zinc cents. Fact of life.
When it cost more than face value to mint it, it's a waste of money kind of a no brainer time to round up
Jefferson Nickels cost more to make than their face value. We can do without cents but I think we need to keep the nickel. Probably redo it so it doesn't cost so much to make.
That will be $2.96. Where is my change. The government will apply it to you're tax bill. Thanks you for shopping at Rip-U-Off.
Yeah, April 1st 2022 came early this year, a month or two back to be exact, when this penny ending was mentioned in a thread. The price for the last run of penny was something like $2,400 or something to that effect.
"The end is near"...or far...or sometime in-between like Social Security, the internal combustion engine and a host of other "ends" predicted for the last 50 years...still going and with no real end in sight.
Rounding to the nearest nickel will be impossible for many people. Do away with both the cent and nickel and round to the nearest dime.
Some convenience stores that I frequent round down to the nearest quarter (if they have quarters) or the nearest dollar (if they don't have quarters). Always in my favor!
Well, the futurist have been prognosticating that all money, as we know it, will be done away with in the future, so maybe it will come to be.
