Counterfeit 1990 Half?

I was just going through my first box of halves searching for silver. When almost finished the whole box, I came across this one coin, then tossed it on the pile with the rest. Now the noise it made when striking the other coins DID NOT sound the same as when the other coins collided, so I picked it up to have a closer look.

For about 15 minutes I clicked it against another single half, alternating between the 1990 (the coin in question) and alternating different coins. Well, whenever this coin clashed with another, there wasn't the usual clash, but more of a DONK. I then let it fall onto my desk, it fell like wood, where another coin would making the little chiming noise when settling.

I then noticed the the reverse was roughly 110 degrees rotated from the obverse. When I weighed it, it came in at 11 grams.

So, has anyone heard of a counterfeit 1990 Kennedy half?

I'm posted some pics, not the best but I tried. With the obverse photo, I flipped the coin 180 degrees after taking the reverse, just to show the extent.

    Thanks,

    Chas.

    Humpty-Dumpty,
That sounds like a "magicians coin". I found one in a box of halves. If you toss it real hard on its edge on the floor or a table it'll come apart, revealing a mexican coin or a british coin inside. It's pretty cool.

Very interesting, however I do think I'll be doing :hammer: that until others chime in to confirm.

http://www.cointalk.com/t82259/ here is one of many threads on this forum with info on magician coins...if you look closely at the reverse picture you posted it looks like there may be a seam...just my opinion

Just read that thread. THUD, thats exactly how it goes. Thanks for the link JPST.

Also, thanks Dano, wanted to smash it, but not without knowing for sure it wasn't a 'good' catch.

You can see from Humpties picture of the reverse where the edge near the rim has a small groove all the way around. It also appears to me that the 'Half Dollar' letters are too close to the rim. Pics were okay IMHO.
