Canadian 5 cent coins

Hi everyone. here are some variety and key date Canadian nickels from my collection. These are all fairly well known and are usually included in peoples lists to complete their set.

First up is a 1925 with a mintage of only 200,000, and a tough key date.

The second one is a 1947 Dot variety. The obverse was King George VI's reign in 1937 inscripted with "GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND: IMP:. The same phrase has been in use since George V in 1911. With India's independence in the beginning of 1948, no way could the mint keep on using the phase "IND: IMP:" The tools would not arrive for several months but there was still great demand for all coin denominations. So the mint kept producing the 1947 with the maple leaf mark and a few with a dot.

The third one up is a 1957 Bugtail variety. This one is as simple as having a die chip at teh end of the tail of the beaver. Making it appear like a bug.

And last but not least is the 1964 extra water line. This is also a simple case. Just a die crack under the date. It just so happens to be flowing with the water lines, and can bring a hefty premium.

1912. The 1911 coins were found to be lacking the D:G (DEI GRATIA - By the grace of God). There was an uproar about the "Godless" obverses and D:G was returned in 1912.

Where's the market for Canadian coins?

 

Great nickels. I've looked at mine for the "extra water line" variety but haven't ever found one.

 

Very cool! I really enjoy Canadian coins but I don't think I have anything very rare. I enjoy what I do have though.
