so i must have bid on this about 3 weeks ago at work when it was $207 and bid 300 with 30 sec left. well in the last 5 seconds my winning 212 got beat out by 305. either way whoever beat me however long ago obviously didnt want it. anyway looking for some opinions before my 21 hr choice to buy it at 300 is up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260544582376&ssPageName=ADME:X:SCO:US:1123 according to those pictures i dont think its close to XF but still a nice piece. i dont think it would go for 300 if it went to auction again tho.
The seller enjoys a following on eBAY, but I have never bought from him and never will: tiny pictures you can do nothing with, and vastly overstated grades. That coin is a Fine 12 obverse with a bit better reverse AT BEST, and quite probably corroded. No mention of this in the description. I would advice you to stay away, and wait until a better one comes up where you know what you are getting.
stay away at that price. The coin looks to have corrosion, regardless of the grade that should be enough. granted the coin is an 1809 which makes it a better date, but no way you should drop that much without some really good pics, or the coin in hand.
thanks guys. if i was paying 212 for this i might not be here asking this question but at 300 if i were to buy this it would set me back for a month so i didnt want to do it without some others advice.
While the coin is a key date as stated, it is also corroded. I agree that the coin is a F12-15. Add the problem and it should be priced in the VG range. Currently ~$175.00 I would say to be a (fair) price on this coin. No way would I go over the $200 mark based on what I see in those pictures.
Obv sharpness F, Rev VF. Both sides show moderate corrosion. Net VG-8. I own a problem free F-12 that I would not trade for that one.
