    I can't stand slabs either. How many 1942S Walkers MS63 do we have to look at? I'd slab a super-key like a 1916D Merc or a 1909 S VDB.

For the original poster that asked a coin value. I've been told $100 or greater because of the slabbing fee.

There are actually two trains of thought here, Our you just a hobbyist or are
    You a serious collector?

If your a hobbyist and its something you dont take to seriously and the coins
Are cheap best to leave them in raw condition, But if your serious and actually
Invest more then a few bucks, You really need to get them slabbed especially
If you plan to resale them!!

I like slabs for the reasons that I am still relatively new to the game and I know it's a legit coin and I dont have to worry about buying a "fake" coin. I mainly buy a Morgan's in slabs because I can get them at a decent price. But for the price to slab them when comparing them to the value of the coin I dont think it will worth it, especially since coming to this forum and having so many influentental people that can help out :)

*aside note, I can purchase a coin holder for a lot cheaper and look just as good if I had it was graded.

That really wasn't my point. I was simply drawing attention to the fact that you have an 1877 IHC as your avatar. The 1877 IHC is a coin that is commonly altered and certification is almost an absolute must, yet you believe that coins should never be slabbed.

I just seems odd. I know that I would never buy a raw 1877 IHC, how about you?

BTW, these posts are not meant to be confrontational, I am just playing devil's advocate.:D

would i send a coin to be slabbed? no. would i buy a slabbed coin? depends on the price. but after the purchase, it would be set free from the slab. would i buy a raw 1877? depends greatly on the dealer. i would buy a raw one from rick snow, but we all know his reputation when it comes to ihc.

Just buy from a respectable dealer, and the slabbing problem doesn't come up.

Does that mean that all respectable dealers are experts in counterfeit detection and grading?

The coin in the pic is mine. I've actually got two that are in very similar condition, but one has a slight discoloration on it. Here it is, along with two Seated Libertys that I was considering sending in. All opinions welcomed.

If I were you I'd send the Standing Liberty Quarters in to get them slabbed , and the one with the discoloration I'd send to have conserved and then slabbed .rzage
