I actually bought a 1912 Liberty Nickel on e-Bay for .25 as I needed to fill a hole in my albumn. When it arrived i opened the package to look at it. Turns out that it was really a 1912-S!!! I went and sold the coin for nearly $200. The seller claimed that he knew nothing about coins. Apparently, he wasn't lying.
A couple of week ago my wife wanted to go to a few yard sales in the area. At the forth sale we found a table full of mint proof sets dated from 1999 to 2005. The sets were broken up and were price at $10.00 each. The sale was in it Thrid week and I could not believe what was left. I put together two 2001 mint proof clad sets and one mix set of 1999 set with the silver Half, Dime, Nickel, and cent and the clad Quarters for a cost of $60.00. As I was about to leave I ask the guy if he still had the set boxes and he put out a box with all the boxes he had. I found that at one time he had nine 1999 Silver sets, six 2001 clad sets and to many to count other mint proof sets, I was not the only one that made out. I pick out the boxes I needed with the COA's and left. I sold one 2001 mint proof on ebay for $87.50 and will more the likly sale the 1999 Silver/Clad in a few days. Over all maybe a profit of $100 to $120.
wow-wish there were a few yard sales around here like that. You would think that if he had all those coins he would know better than to sell them that cheap. Oh, almost forgot- CONGRATULATIONS!
I only sell modern stuff but I made $50 on the 5 Coin & Medal set's. Paid $20, sold for $69 each. Not 2 bad 4 a one week turn over.
I bought several sets of the P&D buffalo nickle two roll set when they came out -- when the mint ran out, i was selling the sets for up to $40 each, it helped my rolls were the earliest minted that were being sold on Ebay
Have made tremendous profits on all Vatican City euros since 2002. If (big if)you can get them at issue price the profit margin is STILL off the wall! Bought the mint set, proof set and all silver commemoratives in 2002 for about $350 and sold within 3 months for a profit of $2300.00. It has gone down hill since but is still very very good if one is willing to sell. 2002 was a very profitable year for modern coins in this household.
When I was a cashier, a shopper paid for a soda with a silver dollar coin. I quickly gave him his 11 cents change and when he left I put my own dollar into the register and kept the silver. Was that wrong? Being a cashier and coin collector allowed me to see how many other coin collectors are out there. I can say they are everywhere. It takes one to know one I guess. They are the ones who pay for diapers with Kennedy half dollars, or give you 23 cents in 1964 bright red lincolns. We should be more discreet than that
Hi All, There are many examples I can give of finding a rare coin at face value and selling it for the market rate. Recent examples would be coins like the Type 2 Lincoln cents of 1998, 1999, and 2000. They cost me ONE CENT and a 1999 was sold before they started going up in price for $250.00 thats almost a 25,000% rate of return Other pieces would be 1983 DDR cents at $200.00 each ,a 20,000% return. You cant beat roll searching for maximizing the percentage of return on coins. Have Fun, Bill
make a good profit there were many modern coins from the mint that you can make a hugh profit immediately. tell me what coin and much much you make?
