2021 "CC" Morgan Dollar Quality Control...

Luckily, I was able to order 2 "CC" Morgans on the US Mint site when it was some months back. Today, I received them.

However, there seems to be some issues... there's dirt on one of the Morgans, and a clear hit on the bust on the other Morgan (both aren't pictured here).

The one with the dirt has another mark on the lower part of the reverse... a mark I haven't seen before on any coin. It's a very sharp/clear "V" shape on the rim and on the lower left of the "CC" privy mark.

Is this a PMD by the Mint? I can't really tell what it is. My pics might make it a little difficult to tell... I think it's a scratch... Or maybe it's dirt or some weird smudge mark that's added to it? What could have caused that perfect V shape mark? Was it a person or robot packing it that somehow could have caused it was a tool of some sort?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you make sure it’s not the holder?

Yes, it's on the coin itself unfortunately.

    That’s a bummer

It almost looks as though it was struck with a fibre or something on the blank - like a struck through error but not IMHO a desirable one.

The USM can be hit or shit with quality control - my personal fave was the scratched 1 ounce platinum they shipped me back in 2008 - I returned it.

Interesting... I guess it could be a struck through error. Maybe one of those tiny staples given how straight it looks (somewhere below a 90 degree angle).

yea thats definitely on the coin. I doubt its a strike through error - that might even incrase the value. as far as I'm concerned, that's a damaged coin that is now worth less than an undamaged one

If I return these 2 "CC" Morgans and mark on the return form that I want a "Replacement" or "Exchange for new item", will the Mint even have a replacement "CC" Morgan? Are damaged coin returns destroyed, and if no replacement exists, could the Mint literally strike a new one? I know that that's a bit out there, but I'm actually curious what the resolution would be in cases like this where the US Mint sold out of it....

I'm thinking that it'll either be a full refund, or if the Mint reserves a certain percentage of the mintage for replacement purposes, then I'll get replacements from that reserve batch. Or... maybe I can ask for a replacement 2021 "CC" Morgan and a 2021 Peace Dollar...!?

That is a bummer indeed. My guess that a return would get you just a refund. It's a reach that they would send a replacement but maybe call. I do know how you feel though not a CC, here is a look at my O privy QC that I got 2 days ago. I'm curious what the p morgan looks because Philly Mint QC isn't looking too good right now.

    Doubtful

They won't fire up the presses just for returns. You'll either get someone elses return which they claim not to do but have been suspected of doing for years as return replacements are often low quality or youll get a refund.

You can't ask for a different product than you're returning
