Hi guys, I have this 2018 P Jefferson Nickel and see 4 die chips on the Reverse as well as indents on either side of the Monticello building. One indent is on the outside and inside of the first column and the second indent is outside the last column. Can someone explain what these indents are?
Looks like chips to me,and a buffing mark, are you that other person who was banned recently?what is this(indent!!!!).
It is possible that the sheet for stamping out the blanks was damaged. The dents remained in the planchet and were deep enough to not be flattened when struck.
That 'depression' on the right side of the building is from the Die, imo, and not the planchet strip or planchet itself. It appears to be a deterioration of the die in that area - notice it looks like it's also inside the window, to the left of the FS. Just my thoughts, viewing the photos.
It’s a keeper, that’s what it is. Nothing real special and you’re not getting rich but it’s a great find and nice to have in a collection.
