I appreciate all who shared their coins and hope y'all enjoy them. After looking at the images of them, I'm rather happy that I didn't plop the dosh to buy them. I think the minters 100 years ago did a much better job with the relief and the finish. They just don't have that cartwheel lustre like the originals, and the Peace looks flat and low relief. I did buy the 2016 Merc dime in gold and was rather disappointed that the mint couldn't even get the full split bands on the fasces on the reverse correct. The dime, like the 2021 dollars looks soft in the lettres and just lacks sharp contrasting details in the design.
YIKES! I have my first package sitting on the counter waiting to open it.[/QUOTE] Mary, you’ ll love the coins! They are quite special…. (in fact, and I digress, this is my gripe with the very anti-special packaging). You and yours, as I, will be quite happy with the coin, though. Very happy!
Well said, sir. It musta been difficult for ya to refrain from any plop of the dosh in your critique as well. Allow me…. Upon cursory review, the Obverse is (overall) not dissimilar to the 1921 design. But, to your point, the crown (alike the rays on the Reverse) appear a bit puny, weak - rather than well-defined, bold impressions. The Reverse is less similar to the 1921 in several regards; most notably (as you noted)…. there is little luster, nothing of the bold impression provided in the 1921 coin - indeed, the rays on the Reverse appear even more puny, skinny, weak. They look like spiky nests used for bird control (and, I should stop there to avoid any political analogy, where they are spiking our eagle on the Reverse, and the eagle head appears to be turned slightly inward and away from the viewer - where the 1921 eagle looked boldly outward). I will say, my 2021 Peace dollars have a frosty finish that I enjoy very much.
I've noticed that the prices for the peace dollars are dropping on eBay. Maybe because the flippers didn't sell out fast enough?
I received my first box, 5 CC. They look good. I agree the packaging sucks but the coins do look good.
I didn’t get any 70s I can safely say that. The D’s are the worst and appear to have a subtle zebra stripe look to them. My Cc looks good . Both S are ok . One has a minor milk spot both have minor cabinet rub and a few dings . My 4 O’s have quite a few nicks I am keeping the one that has minor toning
Got my San Fran Morgan today. Peace Dollar is in the mail. Considering I didn't really want them, and just had a warped need to join the online fray to see if I could snag one, I must say I'm pleased with it overall.
I think they look pretty good. Some discoloration on the rims, possibly from the lighting...i will get a shot of my S which came today.
@David Betts yep they were just holding the spots for the Morgan & Peace dollars. Which by the way, I'm surprised the order went thru, as my CC was updated before they shipped.
I got my 3 peace dollars today. Totally happy with coins even though two were loose rattling around inside their cheap packages. The packaging reminds me of the 50 cent commemorative boxes. Definitely low bid won the bid on the blue package.
I received a pair of peace dollars today. Not eye popping in my opinion but nicer than a lot of the junk the mint churns out. I'll keep one and try to make a trade for a P Morgan with the other.
