Oh dear is right! Slow down Steph, investing in coins is not something you want to dive head first into! Get your feet wet first and find out where the rocks are or you'll end up getting hurt.

    1. Get a book.

    2. Buy a couple PCGS, NGC, IGC or ANACS graded coins on eBay or better yet Heritage.com to use as reference to compare to raw coins.

    3. Stay away from the Gov't or seized property auctions until you know what your doing, most are scams or overpriced and I believe heavy with shill bidding.

4.Error or Vams are quite confusing even for me and I've been collecting for years so stick with the regular coins graded by the above mentioned graders until you get more knowledge. You can still examine the coins you buy for errors as most have not been attributed on these holders. you can do this by going to VAMWORLD.com

    5. Grading from a picture is very difficult and almost an art as the quality of the photos usally are very poor. Go sign up at Heritage.com, it's free and you can see the competed auctions and you will be amazed at their photos!
I think they will even send you a welcome package that has a begineers coin guide with lots of good advice for free!

P.S. Who is trying to sell you those coins and gave you those values? Mr Haney from Green Acres? :rolling: LOL

P.S. Don't get discouraged, I didn't mean to scare you away from collecting or investing in rare coins. You just need to know how to protect yourself, like with anything if money is involved someone will always be their to take advantage of you. Don't expect to flip coins for profit, you may need to hold them for years, but you look young enough to amase a nice collection. Collecting coins has been called the hobby of Kings! Alot of coins have increased in value in the last few years and some more than others but many an opportunity. Just remember to have fun it's a hobby!

Thank you! I will take all of these suggestions and use them to help my understanding of this new hobby. I did order my book earlier today so I am more excited then discouraged in starting this new venture. I appreciate all of the advice I have received and I am sure I will have a lot more questions for everyone but not till after I go over the book ;)
