There’s a coin shortage didn’t you hear? This is a way to get people interested in the US coin to get circulation of them going.

A coin shortage doesn’t mean we don’t have enough of them lol. It’s to get collectors and every day people interested in using them and spending them and just plan get them circulated.

they started now, there's 5 years to get half dollars somewhat used and people used to seeing them, but there's 5 years until they make the coins for the Semiquincentennial (250 years)

In January 2021, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 (P.L. 116-330) was enacted. The legislation authorizes the redesigns of the circulating quarter dollar, half dollar, and $1 coins to be issued between 2022 and 2030.

    Minimal information is here.https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF11773/2

    sort of better info, here,
    https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-116publ330/pdf/PLAW-116publ330.pdf

but there's still a lot not nailed down yet. main take away is 2026 is 250 years since the declaration of independence, and then immediately after, they have the youth sports things lined up to do for the quarters and the half dollars I think are going to be paralympics??? that runs through 2030. Half dollars are going to get some new reverses.

Main point is they have these ideas to get some of these half dollars circulating hopefully, so might as well start now and trigger the silver hunters with brand new dead boxes. LOL!

Interesting read, thanks for posting. In addition to the redesigned quarter, half, and dollar you mention, it looks like there will be medals (yawn) and silver versions as well.

yeah, redesigning the coins for circulation, but I heard also possible:
➤ Up to 100,000 gold $25 coins of 90 percent gold and 10 percent alloy and measuring 0.85 inch in diameter.
➤ Up to 500,000 silver $2.50 coins measuring 1.5 inches in diameter and to contain not less than 90 percent silver.
➤ Not more than 750,000 copper-nickel clad quarter dollars.
    ➤ Not more than 100,000 Proof 3-inch .999 fine, 5-ounce silver $2.50 coins.

I don't know about all this though, seems stupid to make the clad quarter commems (maybe a privy mark thing?).
seems stupid to make a $2.50 denom 1.5" commem in 90% and then a 3".999 5 oz with $2.50 denom.

even the Gold $25, 0.85" is 21.59mm. A half oz. gold eagle is 27mm. so I guess it's going to be underweight and not a half oz.. and tagged at $25 denom?

I don't think these things have passed the House though, it was H.R.4429.

    Be careful! ;)
(CT rule #1 = Some people seem to think that replacing 1 or 2 letters of a word with a *, a #, or whatever other symbol, makes it OK to use bad language.)
