Well - not bad for a first attempt. Maybe trim the excess around the coin - I also wish the picture of the coin was a little bigger(good and bad with that). Good - we get to see more details, bad might lower the grades provided since we see more details than we would normally see with a glass. Also since you have the coin - how does the colors in the picture match the coin? Looks a little pale for what I would expect on IHC - kind of reminds me of one that I have that was whizzed.
thank you. i'm not sure how to make it bigger, as i know zero about cameras other than point and click. i chopped off as much excess as i could. my camera does not have a real good trimming/enlarging feature, or at least in my opinion it doesn't. then again, i know zero about cameras. as far as the color goes... it came out brighter than the coin. still trying to figure out the whole light thing. i used "sunlight peeking through clouds."
You original picture has lots of detail to allow it to be blown up like this, but you are a little out of focus. Anyway, getting it this size took about 1 minute using GIMP. It is free, if you want it.
i see what you mean by a little out of focus. but, it was my first try. with practice, i will get better. or i hope i do. where do i get GIMP?
same coin, different light. this one came out closer to the color of the coin. still, a little brighter. i chopped off as much excess as i could, i know more needs to be taken off.

Your photo does a pretty good job of giving the jist of what the coin is about. However, I agree with mark_h, that the photo could be larger and have the excess trimmed off... I am very new to the coin world, so I'm not sure of the exact needs of the scrutinizing numismatics eye. But, Bigger is better, right? Not sure how much non-photographer help you want (if any), but here is an example of an ihp photo that I just took, with a Canon SD780. It is by no means a high grade camera. Had to fuss with settings to get good detail. Camera was about 5in. away, attached to an old tripod (if it's too close the camera won't focus proper). I have it set to take the largest pictures possible for this model camera. That way after I trim the excess off, the coin image will be larger without having to blow it up past it's original size. Set the timer for 2 seconds, then clicked the pic..... Too much light in the first pic so I blocked some with my free hand then took another, which is what you see here. Did the same with the reverse, then trimmed the excess and combined the obv. and rev. in GIMP... I was already set up to take pictures of coins, so it took no more than three minutes from getting the coin out of the box to saving the finished altered picture. Though I'm sure that taking more time would produce better results. I then uploaded the picture imageshack and posted the thumbail link here. Uploading to a site like imageshack or photobucket gives you more size control and link options with your images. Yeah!!!!! GIMP is awesome!!!!!!!! I use it quite a bit for all kinds of stuff.
