What To Do With These Cents?

Okay, shown below is a box of tubes of cents, all saved by my wife's grandfather. Some were saved in the years shown; others were just found. He was not a collector or numismatist, but an "accumulator," up until his passing. I know for a fact that none of these tubes of coins have been searched by any knowledgeable collector, and I, myself, alas, am not a numismatist either. I do not know enough to search the coins, and don't have the time to try to educate myself about the great number of things I should look for.

So, the question is, what can I do with these coins? What would you guys suggest, given that I have no idea either way about valuable coins in the bunch?

The photo is accurate except for the 1968 uncirc tubes. They have been sold to a member of this forum. The plastic holders have some miscellaneous coins that didn't fit in the tubes.

    Thanks for any guidance.

Use the open section and offer the tubes up for sale in there. My only other suggestion is to hold on to them until you do have the time to learn and search them. Can't help with prices since I don't really collect them by rolls. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks Mark -- unfortunately, I will never have time to learn enough, so I'd better gather a few more stats about what is there (#s of coins by year, for example) and see what people offer. I thought it wasn't allowed to offer coins for sale on CT. Thanks for the suggestion.

Inheriting stuff like this is like a curse. I would give the lot to the grandkids and not worry about it.

In reality, the wheats (pre 1959) are worth about 3 cents apiece and the rest most likely face value.

Yep - but only in the open section or thru PM's.

Is a coin club near by in you area? If not find a family member or a church member that can trust that would be willing to look at the coins and tell you if any are of any value. Since you have mostly cents and from the dates you may not have any really valuable ones. Good Luck. :)-O)

What do you have in the 2X2's?

You could try selling this on the open forum, but selling it locally would make much more sense. The shipping alone will very likely outweigh the value of most of these rolls.

Maybe once a week go through one tube and learn about the year that you are going through (maybe write down the specifics of each and seeing if it's worth going through) or you can give them to me :)
