I have this display frame of 50 state quarters in low-MS condition. I've been trying to sell it with no interest. There is $12.50 in face value. Should I just crack the coins out and spend them in circulation? I hate to do that for a display set, but there's not enough value here.
I wouldn't. I too have four state quarter sets I put together back in the day. I figure one day I'll pass them off to a youngster. Maybe it will spark an interest in collecting. I think the framed display makes the set look quite attractive. The frame likely cost more than the value of the quarters.
Keep it. there is no better quick pictorial tutor to assist a person to name all 50 States. Only 13% of people can do so, when asked. Go ahead, start naming. It is not so easy, and therefore, your display will be a wonderful tool to subliminally learn the States. It will sink in, eventually. Plus, you can learn trivia stuff about the State, from the coin. Every classroom should have this display...not a picture or poster, because the real thing is much more fun and interesting. I keep mine on the kitchen wall. Truth in editing: changed "mote" to "more". What the heck is a mote, anyway?
Good ideas, all. I might look into donating to a local school, or Boy Scouts, or something. It’s a nice display!
Are you kidding? ( he says snidely) Most kids today can't name the first 10 Presidents. That's about as sad.
So you consider yourself a new englander rather than a tri-stater. Interesting. Hear that fellas? Ol @SensibleSal66 wants out of the tri-state mafia. Adios pal.
Seriously though, looking at sold listings people are selling 50 state quarter sets, P or D mintmarks, just the coins, for like $30 and no frame even. another $20-$22 for a 50 coin example set in a whitman or littleton cheapo folder. how much are you trying to sell it for, and where are you trying to sell it? I'd think you could probably get $25 for the coins on Ebay and then another $15-$20 for the empty frame from someone too. If there's no interest for $15 or $20, I'd say to CAREFULLY remove the coins and turn them in to the bank, then sell the frame empty for $15-$20 and it might get someones interest if empty. Someone might not want it with the quarters, but might think it's a good idea to buy it and fill it in themselves. Another person just might have interest in the quarters and not the frame. But the two as a combo might be waiting for the "right" buyer. Don't ask me why, people are just dumb like that, or smart, or whatever, the buyer wants what they want. LOL
I've had it for $30 on Craigslist for several weeks, and $30 free shipping on eBay for several weeks as well - with zero interest
Over 99 percent of people period couldnt name the first 10. Only 4 of them are actually what would be a household name. There's more than one very obscure one in that group
Hate to take away from the OP but I went to the local X-Mart once and was using Washington dollars to pay for goods. The clerk took a look at one and said "What's this"? I said "It's a dollar coin". He said "Who is this on the coin"? I said "Washington". He said "Never heard of the dude, dude". He had to call the manager to see if it was not foreign when it said U.S. right on it. My, my.
HAHAH. Amazing. I once paid for a $1.08 taco at Taco Bell with a presidential dollar and a half dollar. Cashier was so confused she handed the half dollar back. I got an 8 cent discount that day.
Haha pretty much. Van Buren, Tyler, Harrison you have to be a historian to remember them and the Whig party lol
To be fair there are a lot of people in the country that didn't grow up here and most people have never seen a dollar coin. Unfortunately they do look like Chuck E Cheese tokens too with the color. But yea there's a couple early ones every citizen should know but theres also a lot where basically no one knows without looking it up.
So what's this guy doing that you aren't doing? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1148860585...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
