This has a so-called Proof reverse. This is defined primarily by a definitive space between the E and S of states, versus touchin. I’m on vacation and away from my references and no time now to do a search. Dan
even better if you find in cointstar reject slot. Over the past month my dad has been an absolute magnet and has found over a dozen silver dimes and quarters. About 5 years ago, in college, i found fifty silver dimes in the reject slot. It was absurd. I was so lucky at that store; I also won $40 off a $1 scratcher there.
This is a Cherrypickers variety. It is referred to a Proof reverse because Proof quarters have this reverse. The space between the E and S of the word STATES on the reverse is wider than normal circulated issued 1964 quarter E and S. The mint decided to use proof dies for general circulation 1964 quarters and other daters 1956 to 1963. The OP example carries a relatively small premium to the common circulation extremely closely spaced E and S.
Ed I have a BIG mistake on comments regarding the so- called Proof reverse. My eyes deceived me. This is not a Proof reverse, rather the common reverse…sorry.
I just look at it and think.......I was 14 years old when it was minted. I also think that no coin merely deserves to be melted. What if someone said that 1,600 years ago about all the junky old Roman and Greek coins laying around?
Silver at face is free money. Silver in a CS is even 'freer' money. I'll take either any day of the week.
Of course, I fully understand the excitement. I have a number I’ve kept only because they came from circulation. I can remember how I got many of them.
