    $10 in pennies last night:
    2 wheats- 1945 and 1957D
1970 S that fills a hole in my Lincoln Memorial circulated set
2009- one presidency and one rail splitter (both philly)
    ~20% copper overall
5 canadian pennies (one from 1956)
    1 barbados cent
    1 british cent

It still amazes me that I find wheats and 2009 at about the same rate.
I am striking out with finding any 2009 from the denver mint and can't sniff a steel or pre-1930 wheats.

Report: Box of halves complete shut out, not even any nice BU coins.

Midway through a box of nickels. So far 1 wartime silver (1943s, my most frequent wartime find) a Canadian 5cent, a Belgium 1 Franc, and a 1900 German 10 Pfenning. Love finding the foreign coins and the 10 Pfenning is the 2nd oldest coin I've pulled from a box so far.

So the odds in finding a coin of value in any given Roll regardless of face value is what 30/70? There seems to be enough informatio here to cut to the chase as to odds of good finds, but does anyone know?

    Penny's (.1 cent)
    Nickels
    Dimes
    Quarters, etc. ?

    Nickles

My first $100 box of nickles yielded the following:

    1936 Buffalo and 1943 P War

Others: 39,40,41,42(2),47(2),49,49D and 20 fron the 50's -- I realize these are pretty common but I still enjoyed finding them.

It seemed every roll had at least one 1964 nickle, which I guess makes sense considering how many were minted.

    copied from Wikipedia:

An unofficial variety of the wartime coin dated 1944 was made in 1954 when counterfeit nickels were produced by Francis LeRoy Henning of Erial, New Jersey. He had previously been arrested for counterfeiting $5 bills. The 1944 nickels were quickly spotted since Henning neglected to add the large mintmark.[4] He also made counterfeit nickels dated 1939, 1946, 1947, and possibly 1953 as well as one other unidentified date.[5] It is estimated that more than 100,000 of Henning's nickels reached circulation. These can still be found in pocket change, and there is a thriving collectors' market for them, although owning a counterfeit is technically illegal. Henning dumped another 200,000 nickels in Copper Creek, New Jersey, of which only 14,000 were recovered. Another 200,000 are thought to have been dumped in the Schuylkill River. When caught, Henning was sentenced to 3 years in jail, and was required to pay a $5,000 fine.

also, here's a link for some additional info:

The only problem is, it is supp sometimes impossible to tell Henning's coins form the real thing.....I wish I knew this years ago as i got rid of a lot of the old nickels i had. Right now I save all of them until I am sure they are not counterfeits.

Hello. Just ran across this thread last night, and cool, there is still silver out there. Come Monday I am going to track down some half rolls to search through. Until then, I decided to go through my coinage at work during slow times. Didn't find anything in the dimes and quarters (just going for silver, don't know much about key dates and errors...). Then on the Nickles I found 2x1954D, a 1958D, 2x1959D and a 1961D all which I kept, because I like the old nickles. Then went through the pennies, out of eleven rolls I found one wheat, 145 other coppers and three unusual coins in my eyes. A 1980 toned red, very pretty, and two that have dark lines running across the coins, looking like wood grain, is this what is called a woodie? Never seen them before. One was a 1980 and the other a 1982, zinc I think as it looks thinner and feels lighter.
I have never searched rolls before, but I always pull cool coins out of the register, lots of foreign coins, always love the silver and last summer someone put a 1906 IH on my counter, my first one.
Hoping for halves and silver tomorrow.

Results of yesterday's run to 6 banks:

    1. $6 in loose halves - 10 of 12 silver! 64, 65(x2), 66, 67(x3), 68d(x2), 69.
    2. 2 decent Ike's - 72, 74.
    3. 1 51d quarter - stood behind a guy at the counting machine as he tossed this coin into the counter 3 times, then finally left it in the reject tray! (why not just put it back in your pocket?)
    4. 1 British 10 Pence and 1 South African 1/4d coin from a different machine's reject tray.
    5. $480 in rolled halves from one bank - about half-way through it and no silver yet - lots of coins are marked with a black sharpie so they must be someone else's searched coins.

Overall, I'm very happy I decided to go out before the football games!
