Ganelon, this would really be classified as being a fantasy piece,as Mussolini, like Adolf Hitler, never appeared on genuine circulation coins.

Ganelon, you might as well say that it is a medal that looks like a coin.

    Ganelon -

The coin may exist in that you can hold it in your hand - but it is not a genuine coin - it is a fanatsy piece. This is what Krause says for the genuine coin KM #70 Emanuelle III 20 lire - " Note: Similar 20 & 100 lire pieces struck in gold, silver and silvered brass are modern fantasies." Even the link you provided says the same thing - they just say it in German -

    Italien
    20 Lire 1928 zu KM70
    Pseudomünze: Kopf des Mussolini
    Original: Kopf des Emanuels III
    Metall: stumpfe, graue Legierung

pseudomunze - translates in this case as fantasy piece.

Now what that means is that somebody, usually a private individual or group, struck the coins on their own. In other words - the coin was never struck or authorized by the mint. So - rather than call them counterfeits, because they are different than the original coin, they call them fanatsy pieces.

    Hope that helps explain it.

Ganelon, you're more than welcome. What's the weather been like over there in Moscow? Have you ever visited the Kremlin or Lenin's tomb?

I hope this is a geniune one, but I 'm not sure......The text behind the head is not fully stamped out and the metal of the neck hair is not flatstamped. Perhaps just a stamp problem. I've never seen an genuine one to compare. Perhaps somebody can post one for comparison.
    Cheers

If you all have KRAUSE catalog at home, I hope the book can solve the problem. I will search for that coin in the book.

My apologies for resurrection this dead thread but I have a coin with the exact same reverse but a slightly different obverse. I do know that a set of these fantasy coins were actually minted in 1943, prior to Mussolini's death, and I was curious if this could have been one of the originals.

My apologies once again and thanks!

The Mussolini one is the "fantasy piece" and is not a real coin. Please read the responses above. As a "fantasy piece" , I don't know what the value is.

Was this fantasy piece minted but never issued by Italy's Mint in 1943?

Or, is this a more recent, contemporary fantasy medal that was produced by a private company as a novelty?

EDIT: I know this is an older thread, but I was about to create thread when I saw this.
