Wow, Just an amazing coin. Not sure if I've ever seen one struck that many times. Thanks for sharing.
It can be done by counting the 'rings' even in very closely overlapped strikes. There are a few 2000 Sac Dollars with over a dozen strikes, most closely overlapped.
9 times? Pfffft that's nothing. I just covered a Quarter with a rag and struck it 50 times with my hammer! Neat error. I only have double struck errors.
Does anyone remember the photo posted by Charmy Harker of 15(?) pennies that were fused together from the multiple strikes while in the coining chamber?
An interesting quarter, @john65999. It is nice that the number of strikes is noted on the label. Would be cool if the 9th strike is not that far off. I think this is one of those @Fred Weinberg mentioned. 15 times struck Sacagawea dollar. It is interesting to see the extra strikes arranged in "rings", so they can be counted. I remembered checking the ANACS records, listing only one 18x, and two 15x Sacagawea. Not sure how many are under NGC or PCGS though (I crossed the above 15x from ANACS).
Great example and fantastic True View images, especially when blown up. Maybe it's just me but the lines between BE of LIBERTY appear to be "rings" under the topmost strikes. Seems like if those are and are counted your coin is struck over 26 times. (I'm so enthralled with this one I even put tape on the screen, marked each ring and full-rim, then I counted the pen marks to come up with that number. Talk about OCD. )
That 'Funnel' of Cent Planchets was mine, and I sold it to Charmy about 10 years ago. It was something that we used to speculate at the local Error Club meetings - could the (old style) Chute that fed planchets into the striking chamber ever get jammed? This piece was the first and only one ever known that DID jam in the Chute - and bonded together - This came from a large deal of major errors from the Denver Mint going back decades that I bought in 2010 or 2011.
Thanks for your efforts to do the counting, Cliff. I am no expert in deciding whether those are extra strikes, but I would be super-happy if there are!
The most strikes I've seen on a coin is 3, at a Salt Lake City show a few years ago. Nine, wow, that's amazing. Thanks for sharing it. I like the clover coin too, thanks John.
Holy cow!!! That's amazing! I wouldn't want to carry that in a storm!!! Nine lightening strikes might hurt!!!
