Evil Emperors - Vienna

    Hi all! I am currently in Vienna and wanted to share some of the coins from the Kuntshistorische Museum, both their regular offerings and from a temperature exhibition entitled Evil Emperors. Overall a fantastic experience except for them including Maxentius and Julian II; they’re my homeboys and definitely not evil!!:arghh:

    Am I envious!! Those are some true rarities in superb condition. In the gift
    shop they may even have a book about the exhibition or maybe some
    postcards. Thanks for sharing!!

    The coins are superb but I’m particularly interested in the way museums and galleries display their coins.

    It sounds like a very interesting exhibit and I'm glad you were able to see it!

    Oh, I get why Nero, Commodus and Constantine were included, but Lucius Verus and Crispina evil????

    Obv: IMP L AVREL VERVS AVG, bare head, right.
    Rev: PROV DEOR TR P II COS II, Providentia standing left, holding globe in right hand and cornucopia in left hand.
    Refs: RIC 482; BMCRE 202-204; RSC 155; RCV --; MIR 37-14/10.
    Note: Demonstrates the "all-round" legends used on Antonine aurei and denarii issued AD 160-163.

    Crispina, AD 177-182.
    Roman orichalcum sestertius, 19.63 g, 30.3 mm, 11 h.
    Rome, c. AD 177-179.
    Obv: CRISPINA AVGVSTA, bare-headed and draped bust, right.
    Rev: CONCORDIA SC, Concordia seated left, holding patera and cornucopiae.
    Refs: RIC 556; BMCRE 406-410; RCV 6004; Cohen 6; MIR 4.

    LOL! I've never heard anyone describe Maxentius or Julian II The Apostate as "evil". That's funny.

    i'm wif ya on dat dere RC...but that coin of Crispina with a club reverse?!?...could be we don't know sumpin..:confused:
