just got in my newest purchase, a 1948 clamshell retained lamination, there is also some raised metal on bottom of reverse as well, i am calling it ms-65, there are a few finger prints (not mine) on reverse....paid 68.00 at auction from hallenback coins on ebay..they had quite a fe diff. dates i was only able to win this one ENJOY!!
Clamshell Lamination is when the planchet is split on the edge. It splits it into 2 parts. Please show the edge. It's a cool lamination.
ok, so just a retained lam, then got it wrong...only smaller upper part goes to edge...already in storage in a 2 x 2 flip..
Here is an old thread of mine https://www.cointalk.com/threads/25...different-kind-of-lamination-thread-7.300064/
The coin appears to have been very well kept. May not be a clamshell but it is a nice lamination error coin. Thanks for sharing it.
WOW, someone recognized the error and put that away back in 1948, and it is just now resurfacing. Wonder why it isn't slabbed?
out of my 3000 (or more) error coins, i would say only about 65 or so are slabbed, and many of them are 100-300 dollar items, not all coins are slabbed, many coins sit in collections for decades before resurfacing, then someone like me buys them, then when i go to sell, they still will not be in slabs....it is def. a real coin, i have quite a few lamination coins in various stages of damage....anyways...
THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT, YES, I KNOW ONLY A SEVER Lamination still great codition and i think well worth what i paid, i have seen others with this much lamination going for 75-125 on other sites....
