Hi I have this 1822 west indies half dollar its a great coin so its a keeper and has what looks like errors letters up and down & the date maybe has differing 2's ? I dont know anything about these coins any opinions please ? Apologies again iphone pics ?!
It is a nice coin but I don't think there's any special errors here. Coins in this time period weren't always made to the standards we have today.
Firstly, that is a 1/8 Dollar, KM#2. There exist 2 over-dates for this year / type (2/0 and 2/1), but from your pictures, I don't see substantial evidence of this being either. It has been my experience that re-punched letters and numbers are common across all the denominations of 'Anchor Money.' An appealing coin, but no errors.
The uneven lettering is because the die was hand created with the individual letters being punched into the working die by hand.
