I'm working on a type set for design changes for the $1 note. I already have: an 1896 Educational, an 1899 Black Eagle (actually two) a 1917 SawHorse (two), just bought (Today) a 1923 Horse Blanket, a 1928 Funnyback (two) a 1935 Silver Certificate (many) a 1957 Silver Certificate (with moto) Any note after that that is not a silver certificate. I know I still need a 1934 Funnyback. Will that complete all of the major design changes since 1896? My budget isn't huge, but I really want to complete this. I will, OF COURSE, post pictures as soon as I pick up a 34 Funnyback to complete my little collection. My notes are not high grade, but I love them nonetheless. OK, any other major design changes, within a modest budget? thanks. bob
Sounds nice.Bobbeth..except the Woodchopper is a $5 and not a $2. The 1917 $2 will be a "Bracelet Note" and the 1917 $1 is a SawHorse Note The most common $2 is the Fr # 60 and the Fr# 39 for the $1 Regards, RickieB
Thanks Rickie.....Then I meant SawHorse. I'll go back and edit it. So, I take it, that these are all of the major design changes....once I get the 34 I'll have them all?
There's also the "Green Eagle" 1918 $1 FRBN. If you can afford an Educational, then this one won't strain your budget.... Not only the 1928, but also the 1923 come in both red-seal (USN) and blue-seal (SC) versions. In both cases the red seal is substantially more expensive. And in both cases the two have identical designs save for some changes in wording, so for type-set purposes you could probably get away with leaving out the red seals, should you so choose. Edited to add: Oh, and you might want to throw in some of the special printings while you're at it: a Hawaii, a North Africa, maybe a web note or some experimentals. That's the great thing about a type set--you have a lot of flexibility to decide what exactly constitutes a "type"....
While we are at it..if you decide to get the 1923 Blue Seal SC go for the Woods/Tate sig combination.... RickieB
OK. THANKS for the information. Due to budget I will stray away from the red seals FOR NOW. The Educational I inherited as I did the 1917 notes. Just looked up the Green Eagle and what a nice note. I don't know that I will be able to get that one due to cost anytime soon. I have star notes and can add, and will look for a web note, radar, etc., as I have never been luck enough to find those. I'll post pics after I get the 34 funnyback.
