They had a small section of coins and paper currency. For a very brief period after the US took possession of Puerto Rico some banknotes were issued very similar to US National Banknotes: Here is a reverse proof from a note that was issued in 1909 by the Banco de Puerto Rico. Even these proofs are quite scarce now, but the issued notes were called in and destroyed by the early 1920s and very few examples still exist.
